Wondering what Sign Language classes can do for your family?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  *  Would your life be a little easier if you were able to discern what your pre-verbal baby wanted before she started crying?

*  How would you like to help prevent the meltdown that erupts when your toddler gets frustrated stumbling over new words and complicated sentences, and can't tell you what he wants?

  *  Does your child have a speech delay or other special needs that make talking difficult, and leave you wishing there was another way to communicate?

  *  Would you like your preschool or school-aged child to have a larger vocabulary, better retention and new ways to work on spelling?

Through PDX Loves Signing, all of these things are possible, in a fun-filled, high-energy, play-focused class.  in the process, your kids will learn the building blocks of a second language used by half a million Americans, since Carissa only teaches real ASL signs that are used by the American Deaf population.  If your daughter encounters a Deaf child in the park, or your son has a Deaf co-worker in the years to come, the signs they will learn in this class will be useful communication tools.

Based on an award-winning PBS show, these classes (and the Signing Time videos) teach American Sign Language to your infant or toddler with music, pictures, and silly songs, and you'll be amazed how quickly you'll find your child starting to be able to communicate in this way.  Children generally wave before they can say "bye-bye" and teaching them signs only follows their natural inclination to use body language.  As Rachel Coleman, co-creator of Signing Time and mother of a Deaf daughter, points out, "babies crawl before they walk and sign before they talk."

Carissa's Signing Time classes are a fun and engaging way to spend time with your child, while giving you both a way to communicate with each other!  Bring along your baby, or tote along your toddler to a Baby Sign Class!  If your child is preschool or school-aged, they can learn sign as a fun after-school activity while you get a cup of coffee (although moms and dads are always welcome).
